VR Anatomy Lab Opens in Turkey

TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETÜ), located in Ankara, Turkey, recently opened a virtual reality anatomy lab. The lab, which features zSpace technology, is the first of its kind in Turkey.

The medical school at TOBB ETÜ is a young program, and aims to implement cutting edge technology in all teaching activities. TOBB ETÜ boasts the leading cadaver based training center in the state, training students through classical cadaver dissection, plastination and high quality models (like Somso), and now zSpace virtual reality. The anatomy lab is used with students at a variety of educational levels, from K-12 to surgical residents.

“This lab will be the leading anatomy VR lab in Turkey,” said Associate Professor of Anatomy, Selcuk Tunali, MD, PhD. “Students and residents will use the zSpace before cadaveric dissections. I think this will provide them a better understanding about the 3D organization of the body.”

TOBB ETÜ plans to use the new virtual reality anatomy lab to organize meetings and workshops introducing medical students and faculty from other medical schools across Turkey and other countries to the new educational technology.
