Executive Summary of the Project

The ongoing research examines spatial problem solving in three educational domains: engineering, chemistry, and biology. More specifically, Wellesley is designing, implementing, and evaluating the following interfaces:

1) zPuzzle – a game which requires players to dismantle complex 3D structures;

2) zMol – a molecular editor that allows for the construction of small molecules from a pallet of atomic fragments;

3) zSeq – a viewer and editor for 3D visualizations of small genomic structures.

We expect that analyzing this rich data set will lead to a better understanding of how users can take advantage of interactive stereo 3D to improve performance in spatial problem solving tasks.
